Asymmetrical Information, in the process of debating gay marriage, points to a post of Myria’s that’s few months old and, like most of what she writes, good. Her main point (later in the post) is about the Presidential election and people who would vote for John Wayne Gacy if it meant defeating Bush, but she leads up to it by talking about other issues:

I have a friend who had a shrink who said it was easy to figure out what gender you were primarily attracted to. He said, “What do you think about when you masturbate? That’s what you are”. Which makes me wonder what bi-folks think about. Some sort of man-woman?
I know it’s simplistic, and even when most people can see it they might deny it, but it’s always been true as far as I can see…
I think that’s true if you take sexuality to refer to which gender better gets you off–as you say, the gender you’re primarily attracted to. I don’t think it tells the whole story (and I recognize that you didn’t say it did). I do know guys who prefer sex with men but wouldn’t want to be life partners with a man instead of a woman. Granted, they’re less common among Japanese men who hang out in gay bars than guys who are just closeted and got married so their parents and bosses would leave them alone, but they do exist. (And that doesn’t even bring the possible desire to have children into the equation.)
